AFL | Lesson 2

Group A learnt some skills for AFL (Australian Football League).

First we practiced the old skills from the 2 weeks ago. The skills from the 2 weeks ago are drop punt  (kicking) and hand ball (hand pass).

Then we learnt some new skills called ruck (tip off) and marking (catching). The ruck (tip off) is like a basketball tip off but you can move any where, you can hit it anywhere and you have to lift one of your knees while you try to hit the ball.If the ball goes over you head you move back and make an W above your head. If the ball goes under your chest you scoop the ball with your arms.

I enjoy learning new skills for AFL (Australian Football League) because I can play AFL (Australian Football League) with my friends and family. I need to work on my ruck (tip off) because I can't jump high.

America's Cup

I learnt about the America's Cup.

First I watched and read information from articles and videos, I then sorted the information I got into who, what, where, why and when.

Next I did some summerazing. I chose 20 important words from the main ideas, I then shortened it to 6 words. I then wrote my summary with the 6 words.

Lastly, I did some evaluating. I wrote facts that I had learnt. I then wrote questions or ideas. I am still interested to learn more about the America's Cup.

Using these 3 strategies can be helpful when reading because it takes a lot of information and makes it smaller for you to understand.

Prototec

I practiced basic facts using Prototec.

My score is 60/60 for stage 5 and I finished in 3 minutes and 26 seconds.

I'm going to try a harder level and get all the question correct.

Visualising | The Highway Rat

Visualising is making pictures in your head while listening to a book or story. Visualising is important because it shows your own ideas.

The story is about a rat called The Highway Rat that takes everyone's food even if the rat doesn't like the food. One day The Highway Rat see's a duck and chases the duck, but the duck says my sister has a lot of goodies so the highway rat gets fooled by the duck and gets lost in a cave.

My visualisation is different from my friend Ahli because he doesn't know the book but I knew the book so I used some of the visualisation strategy and some of my strategy.

Place Value & Saying Numbers

Place value is a system that groups numbers based on their size.

The position of a digit determines its value. When we say numbers we group then within the same house. For example 15709 has fifteen thousands, seven hundreds and nine ones.

Understanding our base 10 place value system allows us to pronounce big numbers properly. It also allows us to identify numbers before and after.

Mihi Whakatau

Mihi Whakatau is a Maori term for a formal greeting.

Mihi Whakatau is traditionally used for welcoming, introductions and opening.
It is undertaken by the Tangata whenua ( local inhabits).

The Mihi needs to acknowledge the significant aspects  to the place. The Maunga ( mountain), Awa
(river), and the Iwi (tribe) are generally used.

Introducing Ingoa (name), okū tupuna ( ancestral place) and where you live is important for the audience to understand the position of the speaker.

Manuhiri is the term used to describe or the group visitor/s that are being welcomed. It is important to end with a warm welcome so the visitors know that there is no hostility in 2 groups being together.

Being respectful of the land, the people and the purpose of a visit will ensure long lasting relationships and connections.

I completed a can - do activity called Fact Find.

My fact find was on Kobe Bryant. I learnt some new facts about him.

I learnt that Kobe Bryant died on 26 of January 2020.
I chose Kobe Bryant because he is my favorite basketball player.

SSR Selfie| Alex Rider Skeleton Key

I read 20 pages of Alex Rider Skeleton Key by Anthony Horowitz.

This book is about a school boy named Alex Rider that gets invented to do a job at a spy agency team.
He always wanted a family holiday but he has no family members.
In the end his friend called Sabina Pleasure invents Alex Rider to a family holiday.

Alex Rider is my favourite character because he collaborates with people even if he never met them before.
Alex Rider encourages me to collaborate with people that are new.

LI: to summarise and retell a text.

Print Design Rules

I learned about the Print Design Rules.

First Mr Wong taught us about the main aspects of the Print Design Rules, colour, layout, text, composition.
Next I figured out which posters were good and bad with my partners.
Last I reorganised a poster to make it good.

I need to improve on aligning my text boxes.

Handwriting

I learned how to write the alphabet, numbers, and symbols properly.

I watched a video to show handwriting. I wrote characters neatly into my writing book.

I need to practice writing my w with a sharp bum and not write under the line.

Basic Facts Boxes 2021

I completed a Basic Facts test on addition up to 5.

I tried the speed demon challenge up to 5 and timed myself.

I finished  it in 5 minutes and 40 seconds..

I got 98/100. I need to be more focused and not be distracted.

AFL | Lesson 1

Group A did some skills for Australian Football League.

First we were shown by the Coach Jack how to pass the ball. To pass a ball make a fist with your right/left hand and make a plate with the opposite hand.

Next Coach Jack showed us how to kick the ball. To kick the ball with our hands make a M on the ball. After you make a M on the ball drop the ball where your foot is and before it drops kick the ball.

Lastly we played two games called Octopus and Bum the Coach. To play Octopus there are three taggers with the ball and they have to try to pass and hit the runners.  The runners are trying to run to the other side and not get hit by the ball.

I need to focus to kick the ball with less power and more power for my aim.

LS1's Treaty

LS1 learnt about the 3 Ps in Treaty of Waitangi and how they apply to our learning.

First Mr Ogilvie introduced the 3 Ps in the Treaty of Waitangi. They are Protection, Partnership and Participation.

Then in groups we wrote statements about the 3 Ps in LS1.

After that we used our groups ideas and thought about how they connected to me.

I chose these 3 statements because they will help me be successful with learning in LS1. I will respect our environment.
