SLJ 2020 Activity 5

Today for our fifth summer learning journey activities we were tasked at creating a kowhaiwhai pattern on paper or digital. In my kowhaiwhai I tried to create something that had to do with family. The task was fun and challenging.

  1. Kia Ora Mercy!

You have done an excellent job rotating and reforming the koru in order to make your own Maori kowhaiwhai pattern. You've definitely showed that you are fully capable of being resourceful, creative and unique.

It's great that you've chosen to continue being a Summer Learning Journey participant. You have also used bright and vivid colours for the background. In your blogpost, you've told the audience that you wanted your kowhaiwhai pattern to have something to do with family. Could you talk more about what your kowhaiwhai pattern represents?

I look forward to your reply. Ka kite!

  2. Tēnā koe Mercy, this is Elle from the Summer Learning Journey team.

Thank you for sharing your awesome kowhaiwhai pattern! I really like that you’ve layered your koru with black, white and red - this shows a lot of creativity and gives it a 3D look!

I think it’s very special that you wanted your art to represent family! I really like that your koru are back to back, it looks like they’re supporting each other.

I’m glad to hear that you found this activity fun and challenging, because that is a great way to keep learning! What part of creating it challenged you?

Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing more of your Summer Learning Journey blog posts!

    Ngā mihi,
    Elle (SLJ)
